From Dating App To Date
With dating apps becoming part of our every day lives, the ease and normality of it can detract away from the main reason you downloaded it in the first place… to find a date. There’s no avoiding it - going on a date can be a terrifying prospect, whether you’re super out going or shy. Whilst dating apps make the process easier to tackle – we’re here to give you some tips on how you can take it from online to IRL.
1. Don’t Wait Too Long
The key to transitioning from messaging to asking someone on a date, is to not wait too long. Of course, asking too soon can blow it as quickly as asking too late! Once you’ve learnt the basics and established a connection, take it face-to-face so that you don’t fall in to a routine that rely’s on technology and mundane conversation.
2. Safety First
Feeling safe and happy to go on the first date is the most vital part; if you have any doubts or gut feelings that “somethings not right" then it is essential to politely decline the offer.
Make sure you:
- Meet in a public place.
- Tell several people where you are going, the name of the person and how long you’ll be out
- Don’t consume too much alcohol.
Once all of these safeguards are put in place, you should be able to sit back, relax and enjoy the date to the fullest.
3. Do Your Homework
If you want to impress your date with your attention to detail, then it’s time to set yourself a lot of homework. Make sure you ask lots of questions during your ‘get to know’ stage so that you can memorise the answers and use as fuel for conversation starters later on. Check out your mutual places on Huggle, it could be a nice idea to go to one of those places on your first date – seeing as you both enjoy it!
4. Don’t Pretend To Be Someone You’re Not
Assuming your date goes well and unless you’re secretly an Oscar-award winning actor, it is going to be very difficult to keep up with a false persona that you have set for yourself. Eventually, the act will give way which result in awkward slip-up's and disappointment. If you feel the need to be someone but yourself, then we suggest that the person you are dating is probably not right for you and you should just keep looking until you find someone you can feel comfortable to be with (in your own skin)!
5. To Second Date Or Not to Second Date?
If the date was a success and you already can’t wait for the next one, then don’t hesitate to let the other person know! If you’re not prepared to ask them just yet, there are ways to hint to them that you had a great time and would like to see them again. If the date didn’t quite do it for you, it is important to remain polite until you part ways.
