First Date Guide
First Date Guide
Let me guess… you’ve got the shakes, you’re sweating profusely and you have planned a whole novel of conversation fillers in case you are met face to face with a dreaded awkward silence? You’re about to go on a first date.
No matter how many dates you go on, the build up before is always the most nerve wracking…even though you know within two minutes of meeting each other your conversation will flow naturally you will not forget to ‘human’, whether this person is the one or not.
To put your mind a little more at ease, we’ve constructed the ultimate first date guide to minimise any casualties... (just joking, you’ll be fine!).
Reserve Your Whole Night
This is the ultimate rule when it comes to a first date. Firstly, because you’ll be more relaxed if you’re not rushing to leave but secondly because it’s awkward and insulting! To eliminate the chance of that awkward conversation, explaining you have somewhere better to be, it’s best to go in with the mind-set that you won’t want to leave!
Don't Be Late
Manners are key when it comes to impressing your date. Being on time applies to most life situations where you’re trying to make an impression, so it’s essential that you don’t leave your date waiting. Nobody expects you to be there on the dot, but any longer than 15 minutes and you’ll have lost some serious brownie points.
The Drinking Fine Line
Whilst staying completely sober is usually not recommended, getting white girl wasted to the point where you lose all self control is also usually not. It’s easy to get carried away, especially when the whole date is revolved around drinks, but it’s important to pace yourself and don’t forget to alternate with water! Don’t add to the next day fear of whether they’ll text you or not, by not being able to remember how you got home with one shoe…
Everyone has their own social standards when it comes to who get’s the check at the end of the night. What is most important though, is that both parties at least offer. Whether this means splitting the bill in half or one of you get’s dinner and the other get’s drinks… as long as there are no assumptions being made, the rest should fall in to place.
Who? What? Where? Why?
A first date’s ultimate goal should be about getting to know the other person. By asking lots of questions, you’re finding out more about the person whilst also being engaged and switched on. If there’s one way to impress your date, it’s to be more interested in them than yourself. Sounds like a given right? Trust me, we have a few stories for you…
Nobody likes a negative Nancy. If your date feels like you’re bringing them down with sob stories and constant complaints, they’re not going to want to see you again! Be uplifting and happy and make sure they associate your company positively, and you’ll have that second date in the bag.
